Steps to Your Own Design

If you’ve already searched all the stores or just want something unique, you might want to design your own prom dress.

There are several steps you’ll need to follow to make your own prom dress.

The Design
The first step is to come up with an actual design for your dress. Should you choose modest prom dresses or sexy prom dresses? Spend some time browsing through fashion magazines for current styles. You can then use those styles to decide on the look or your dress or mix it up and go with a completely different trend to be really different and unique. For example, if you like a-line prom dresses, you may want to sketch out the dress on paper. Be sure to include not only the design for the front and the back of the dress, but also the sides. If you are not artistic, it might be better to start in the fabric store with a book of prom dress patterns. Even if you choose classic prom dresses, you can make it uniquely yours with materials and embellishments. It is also unlikely that the majority of teens at the prom will have a hand-made dress, so a pre-made pattern will probably still be unique among your friends.

The Material
The type of material you choose can make a difference in the difficulty of sewing the finished piece. Some materials are naturally harder to work with than others. For example, silk can be very hard to sew and taffeta nearly impossible for a beginner. Be sure to consider the skill level of your seamstress or yourself when choosing the material. If necessary, take the seamstress to the material store with you. If you are hiring a seamstress from a local tailor, then you should consult with them on which materials they are used to working with and if there are any that create additional surcharges and how much.

The Color
Although it is tempting to choose a color that is unusual, remember that you will have to match shoes, jewelry ad purse to the dress. That pink prom dresses that looks so attractive in the fabric store can become a nightmare when it comes to matching. However, if you really love the color, you can have shoes and purse dyed to match at high-end shoe retailers or you can always go with plain white or cream-colored accessories to match an unusual color. such as the green prom dresses. If you plan to have shoes and purse dyed, allow plenty of time and get a good size sample of the material to leave at the shoe store.

The Sizing
Be sure that you try the dress on and have any alterations done at least two to three weeks before the big night. The last thing you want on prom night is a dress that is so tight you can’t breathe or so long that you keep tripping on the hem.

Prom Night

For most of girls, prom night is their imaginary night. It is the last formal occasion of their high school where they can dress up as perfectly as they can. It is a chance for the girls to be beautiful, and make their childhood dreams into reality. They always wait for this night, and when finally the occasion comes, they start to look the best Prom Dresses they can find to be worn in that special night.
The girls usually prepare their prom dresses and the details carefully. They want to get the best one and the perfect look for this event. They can purchase the prom dresses in the stores, boutiques of famous designers, or even prepare Cheap Prom Dresses by themselves.
In choosing the prom dresses, you should consider some important things like the designs, patterns, colors, and the materials. Be sure that those important things fit and are suitable for your body. They also should describe your image as calm, innocent, sweet, or sexy girls. Be sure that your dress comforts you to enjoy the party otherwise you will look terrible even in your Classic Prom Dresses.
Prom dresses are normally gorgeous formal gowns in various designs. They can be long, sexy, sweet innocent designs or vintage designs just like conventional ball gowns as you often see in the stories of Princesses in your childhood. Sometimes your school has a certain theme for the prom night, so you should prepare your dress as the theme.
In order to look pretty and perfect when the prom night comes, choose the proper colors for your dress and accessories you wear. Deep colors like deep Purple Prom Dresses will make you look slimmer. Or if you wish to be more proportional with your thin body, choose the light colors like white, beige, yellow, pink, or other eye catching colors. Pink Prom Dresses is one of your favorite choices. And of course, the accessories you wear will perfect your look.
Keep in mind, in choosing the dresses and accessories for your prom night, you need to be the real yourself. Of course, the Corset Prom Dresses will make you look very sexy. But more importantly, the dresses and accessories you wear will look more beautiful and fit for you if they describe your personalities within. You do not need to be another one to be a stunner in your prom night.

Fairy Flair Your Little Mermaid Wedding

Nobody hid behind the rubber ficus. The waiter was on hiatus. On the other side of the booth, Lenna looked at me pleadingly.
In a voice normally reserved for confessions like, “I have a pathological crush on Richard Simmons and he’s filed a restraining order against me,” she said, “I’m toying with the idea of an Ariel-themed wedding. You know, like The Little Mermaid.”
Then her lips clamped shut while her eyes begged me not to judge.
Which I could never do because Lenna makes the most amazing sushi, in her very own kitchen, and always uses the good kind of nori you don’t need those vampire fangs to bite through.
What Lenna didn’t realize is that she’s actually in good company. “The Little Mermaid”, and Mermaid Prom Dresses belongs to  that class of fairytale-themed weddings that won’t be washing out to sea anytime soon.
Can We Hold the Mermaid Puns?
This is kind of unusual, but I think the best place to start planning a mermaid wedding is by looking at the little gifty things you might end up buying for your bridesmaids … or out-of-town gift bags.
It might seem backward. But I practically guarantee it’ll get you in the mood. The mermaid jewelry out there is the cutest ever. The seaweed-based botanicals to plump up your skin are insanely luxurious. Take a look at this stuff, but try not to buy $2000 worth of floating-pearl chokers right before your wedding, or you might have a pouty fiancé.
Along the way, you’ll come across finds like this incredibly adorable clamshell trinket box that couldn’t be more perfect for your ring bearer. Oh, and diehard Ariel fans might get a kick out of buying nautilus shell necklaces for their best girls.
Prepping Your Royal Proclamation
Mermaid-ready invitiations range from the “I don’t care what the Moymerheimers think!” Ariel invites in blue, to the popular white and embossed z-fold featuring Ariel, Eric and your monogram, to more generally beach-themed invitations featuring starfish, hibiscus blossoms, seashells, sea horses or sand dollars. And then, of course, there’s the ever-popular message in a bottle invitations
Bathing Beauties (and Above-Water Debuts)
We could jump right into wedding décor here, but talking about your future finery is way more fun. The gown, for example. Not only is the mermaid (or trumpet) gown tailor-made for this event, it was also the champion on the bridal catwalks last fall, with heavyweights like Herrera and Wang trotting out major collections in 40’s-style curves.
Of course, you’re not just looking for a mermaid silhouette — you want the whole flippin’ mermaid fairytale. So amp up the glamour with a pair of elbow length gloves, a super-sparkly choker, and dangly earrings. You’ll probably want your hair in sexy, your pretty Mermaid Evening Dresses, long-and-loose ringlets (if nature wasn’t generous, now might actually be the time to think about a little help in the form of extensions). Perhaps get some orchids woven in, or silk ribbons, or a tiara that winks at the sea.
And think sequins. A purse, say, beaded with rows of large white sequins looks suitably fishy and bridal at once. Consider a sequined bodice in oceanic hues and a Modern Bridesmaid Dresses for your bridesmaids, too. And floating chiffon scarves in azure, and perhaps a few blooms for their hair.
Make sure everyone’s footwear sparkles: barely-there sandals with thin, feminine straps.
The Greatest Ball of All
The big fairytale themes aren’t easy to do on a budget, or in the local VFW. They beg for over-the-top treatment, big gestures, dramatic visuals that won’t shrink to nothing in a grand interior. The mermaid bride in Prom Dresses can save herself a lot of trouble by picking a venue that does most of the heavy lifting. Really, you can’t overstate this.
Try to find an aquarium, a water park, a zoo with a lot of fish tanks. If this just isn’t happening, go for a ballroom with tall ceilings, elegant banquet chairs and light and airy decor. For the latter, be prepared to go nuts with swags (tulle, organza), and tap a lighting designer to create a sense of liquidity and depth. Make sure it doesn’t go so far that Aunt Sadie gets violently sick.
Tricks of the trade: a great rental or prop shop. Even if your venue isn’t perfect, a prop shop can save the day. A well-stocked one might offer Greek pillars wrapped in ivy (for that Lost Atlantis look), wine barrels, treasure chests, wooden pilings, Captains wheels, fishnets and other indispensable trinkets that probably aren’t lying around your basement.
Then, for those DIY touches: consider stocking the place with giant pearls (pearlescent quality latex balloons, or styrofoam balls you’ve painted with pearl paint and suspended from the ceiling). Drape swags of fishnet down your pews.
Doll up your centerpieces with sea glass, faux pearls, beta fish, Pink Prom Dresses and/or seaweed-colored raffia wraps. Tuck flowers into conch shells. Or create a dreamy look with clear glass cylinders filled with loose orchids, lit from below with an otherworldly blue or fuchsia glow.
Hang aquatic silk canopies over the cake table, guestbook table, the “I am so fabulous” table, whatever you’re doing. You get the picture.
A Siren Song Before We Part
Remember: while beach weddings are all about things we see on land … with a few items from mysterious deep washing up on shore, maybe … an undersea wedding takes us straight to the heart of those hidden mysteries that few ever get to see. So play up those not-quite-tame things, like coral, seahorses, seaweed, tropical fish, Modest Bridesmaid Dresses and other briney delights.
A mermaid-worthy menu can be just about anything suitably grand, but consider a raw bar, stocked with fresh oysters, and sushi (mmm, sushi.) and an asian seaweed salad.
For favors, hand out lighter-than-air “seafoam” confections in aqua blue favor boxes, or personalized engraved sand dollars, or chocolate fish.
Even Mermaids Sing the Blues (and Pinks, and Whites)
What does your mermaid, Ariel-theme or “Under the Sea” wedding look like? Share your planning up, downs and inspirations with the rest of us.
Oh, and That Asterisk Live fish are controversial. And for good reason. If you’re buying 12 or 20 betas for your wedding, please make sure you have some fish-friendly people to take them home afterward. Don’t put two male Betas in the same bowl. And for the sake of all things fishy, don’t put food coloring or candles in the water. Fish are very sensitive. Even the chlorine in normal tap water can kill.
That said: if you want fish, have them. In all honesty, those little guys in the tiny plastic tubs at the pet store aren’t always long for this world. If you take care with them at your wedding, you might actually save some lives.
Flank your entrance with two industrial-strength bubble machines and a couple of older kid nephews. (Hint: the former’s as cheap to buy as it is to rent. The latter might help out for free.) Have the nephews play “herald” and mark your entrance with giant wedding horns made from conch shells. Make sure they know they have to eventually stop.
No royal mermaid goes anywhere without her trusty dolphins, so have them chipped out of ice. And guide guests to their seats with a sandy tray filled with seashell card holders … or tagged pencil starfish.
Sound is one of the main secrets to ambience, and mermaids love harps. So see if you can get some dreamy strings to play, at least at the start. Later, have your DJ and lighting expert stage a dramatic waltz for two to the strains of “Kiss the Girl.”

Prom Season Is Here Again

The mad dash to find the perfect dress at the right price which parents and their daughters can agree on—it’s not easy. Finding the dress can be tougher than finding a date, it seems. The key to a chic prom dress that doesn’t rival your first college tuition payment is to start early. Get a sense of what you like, what you can afford, and what will work on your body. Keep reading to learn the steps to choosing a prom dress you can happily dance the night away in—and be able to look back on all those prom night photos without embarrassment.
Before you proceed, you’ll want an idea of your budget so you can determine what dresses are within reason. Keep in mind that dresses are available at all prices; just because a dress is expensive doesn’t mean it’s automatically chic. If budget is a serious hurdle for you this season, be sure to look into all the programs that make Prom Dresses available at affordable prices, or for free.
It’s important to have a sense of what looks good on you before starting the search for dresses. Think about dresses you may have worn in the past, like Pink Prom Dresses and what looked good. You might want to dig out old photos, too. Remember that shinier fabrics like silk charmeuse and satin can make figure flaws more noticeable, while matte fabrics—fabrics that don’t reflect light—will be more flattering. Also consider the length of your gown. You may want to find out what your friends are wearing and whether Tea Length Prom Dresses is traditional at your school.
No matter where you live, you can browse online to find the dress of your dreams. But you won’t be able to try it on until it arrives at your door. “Window shopping” online is a great way to start figuring out what you like. Whether you buy the dress online or not, you’ll start to get an idea of what you are looking for in Gold Evening Dresses. Check out a site like PromSpot, which will let you enter in info about the designers and price you’re looking for, and then will tell you what stores in your state carry dresses that meet your specifications. eDressMe also has a great selection of prom looks, along with a guide that helps you choose dresses by silhouette, color, style, and price.
For personal attention, a small boutique can be a great way to find the right prom dress and start narrowing down the shapes and colors that look as good on you as they did on the girls in the pictures you’ve collected. For a less personal touch but a huge selection, a department store is a good place to start trying on lots of different dresses to find what you like. Don’t forget the treasures you might find at a vintage store nearby. No girl wants to show up in the same dress as someone else, and a vintage dress will guarantee a unique look. Or, shop eBay to find the exact dress you’re looking for. The average girl tries on at least 20 prom dresses before finding the one, so be patient. And don’t be too picky in the beginning; how a dress looks on the hanger is not a good indication of how it will look on you. Don’t get talked into a dress you don’t truly love. You might need to try on a bunch and disagree with a salesperson who is trying to convince you that Cap Sleeves Prom Dresses is right for you, but it will be worth it. And don’t forget to bring a friend, your mom or an older sister to help you figure out what looks good.
Shopping for Prom Dresses is a rite of passage for many teenage girls. Finding the perfect dress is the start to an evening you’ll remember for years to come, and one that will be heavily documented for many a future boyfriend or family gets together. If you are patient, start shopping early to get the dress you want. If you are realistic about what will look good and what is within your budget, you’re sure to find Halter Prom Dresses that make you feel terrific and that you’ll happily look back on in all those photos.

Pick the Right Color for Prom

Prom dresses trends are one thing, but choosing a gown in a color that’s flattering to your skin tone is what will really make you pop on prom night. If all the fashion mags are saying metallics, but these colors make you look washed out and pasty, don’t be afraid to go against the grain in order to look your best. After all, prom night is something you’ll remember for the rest of your life – don’t you want your pictures to capture you looking your best?
The first step in determining which prom dress colors will look best is to analyze your skin’s overall tone and undertones. This can be difficult to determine, so try putting on a white shirt and hold a white sheet of paper next to your face while standing in the most natural light possible. You should be able to pick up subtle variations using this method – for example, you may notice that your skin has a slightly yellow tone or that your undertones take on more of a bluish tint,so you should choose pink prom dresses.
Traditionally, skin tones are broken down into two groups – warm and cool undertones. If the white shirt and paper experiment reveals yellow, beige, brown or olive undertones, you’re considered to have a warm skin tone. The colors that will be most flattering to you will be tones in the Earth tone family, including yellows, reds or browns. On the other hand, if you discover undertones of blue, pink, rose or purple, you’re considered to have a cool skin tone. Look for blue prom dresses, purple prom dresses or green prom dresses to best flatter your skin tone.
Another way to determine which prom dress colors will be most flattering to your coloring is to take a closer look at the pupils of your eyes. Although we typically classify ourselves as having blue, green or brown eyes, most of us actually have many smaller flecks and variations in the color of our eyes. For example, even though your eyes appear brown, you may have small flecks of green or amber that become apparent on closer observation. Matching the color of your prom dress to the color variations in your pupils can be extremely flattering.
Finally, if you’re still at a loss for which prom dress colors will be most flattering for you, think back to the items in your wardrobe that have earned you the most compliments. Do people comment on how flattering a certain shirt or jacket is on you? Or do you get rave reviews every time you wear a particular scarf or accessory? Look for common color trends among your favorite pieces – if all your compliment-worthy articles are red, it’s safe to assume that red prom dresses will be a good pick for your prom dress.
When you’re shopping for prom dresses, don’t just settle for the first trendy frock that enters your field of vision. Prom night is a big night and you’ll be looking over the pictures of the event for a long time to come. Take the time to find the classic prom dresses – one that’s not only fashionable, but also flattering to your natural skin tone and coloring.

First Impression Question

You have been invited to the prom; you are working on the minimal details and other plans that will be circling and affecting your evening otherwise. So far, you haven’t really thought about your prom dress but as you are roaming the local strip-mall in search of the address to your chose hairstylist, you see classic prom dresses in the window of a small boutique and your heart skips a beat. You run inside to scope it out, you fall in love instantly, the trim is amazing, the spaghetti straps are wonderful, and the vertical-back lace is more elegantly designed than anything you’ve ever seen. You have to have it; you will be lost without it. The main problem, you find out, is the cost! Your Mom was gracious enough not to require you to pay for the prom dresses, but would she cover such a large expense? This is the time to question-your-first-impression!
We all have those moments when choosing modest prom dresses, especially the perfect prom dress, where we find ourselves drooling over the “One”. There will always be one prom dress that will shine above all the others and attract our attention more than anything. But in these moments we have to take a breather. We have to come back to our sensible judgment and realize the over-all picture to this crazed painting. We want what we want, but sometimes unless we are a princess with a fortune of gold awaiting us, then we may need a reality check. Money can be hard to come by; if your parents have agreed to pay for your prom attire then you may want to be as compromising as possible. They will want you to look ravishing, but the expense will need to be decided upon before you run to the closest, and most expensive, boutique.
Never jump into the first decision without a second thought. You should always do three things: Stop, breath, and think. If you do these three things in a moment such as this then you are guaranteed to make a better decision than if you had just grabbed the credit card and went to town. The first impressions we receive are the initial indicators as to the direction we should go in, not the place where we should stop thinking and act! If we reacted on impulse for every decision we made where would the world be today? Even though it is only a prom dress, no matter it is pink prom dresses or yellow prom dresses, the bigger picture may involve your parents trust with their money, or the amount of common-sense and decisiveness you display when given a certain responsibility. There may be more details tied to your decision than you realize. So keep your head clear and your credit cards in check.

Pink is one of the most popular colors for prom dress and this can be demonstrated in the amount of pink prom dresses which are seen at every graduation celebration. There are shades of magenta and hot pink, down to baby pink in a variety of styles from short prom dresses to elaborate ball gown prom dresses, mermaid prom dresses , sheath prom dresses ,and A line prom dresses. As one of the most popular colors, the dresses are a way to display your love for pink or simply choose a popular color that is easy to coordinate with. There are many pink prom dresses available from designers, formal dresses shops and prom dress outlet stores. Regardless of the budget, it can be simple to find the pink dress that suits you – if you just take the time to look.

Why is pink such a popular color when it comes to prom dresses? Pink is one of the most popular colors because it is versatile while being stylish. The dress can be matched easily with accessories and can even be easily matched with the accessories of your date. A pink tie and pink Mens accessories can be easy to find to compliment the dress.

There are many colors of shoes that can be worn with a pink prom dress. Shoes in tones of gold and silver are able to compliment a pink dress with ease when it comes to prom. Alternatively, pink shoes to complete the ensemble can also be used.

Prom Dresses

Strapless prom dresses and halter prom dresses are popular styles for this prom season. Everything from the shorter cocktail dresses to floor-length gowns will look good for prom this season. Just take a few looks back at the hot dresses that graced this year at red carpet! What is prom if there is nobody to break some of the outfit guidelines issued by school districts? Well, you have to be careful here. Otherwise, you will be kicked out of the ceremony. Students will show up wearing the skimpiest, edgy styled-dresses any way. Wild prints, open, see-through mesh and extremely low-backed dresses may be on the chaperones? list of big no, no. In case you are having an alternate prom party where guidelines and rules are expected to be broken, think about picking prom dresses with loose layers, wispy chiffon or a halter-cut leaning. If you want to select a dress from supernova designer, then just know what you are getting yourself into. Many industry insiders will admit that her dresses tend to be a little shorter than normal with wild, funky designs like polka dots.

Expect to see lots of champagne prom dresses, gold prom dresses, all shades of green prom dresses and fuchsia prom dresses as hot colors dresses . Bright colors such as turquoise and pink prom dresses will be the orders of the day. That does not mean you should forget the ever faithful black and white prom dresses which are always popular for prom. You can always wear them for other occasions too.

What are the trends in Jewelry, handbags, Shoes and other Accessories?

First rule first, keep your accessories light. Also, think about selecting neutral colors for your accessories. We are talking about champagne or white. Too much of one color on is not always advisable. Make sure you match your heels with your purse. One of the most popular costume jewelries I have seen is by rhinestone ad Swarovski Jewelry. Gold and silver jewelry is in this season. Try to have the right clutch purse, earrings, bracelets and shoes. If you want to wear heels, think about metallic colors such as bronze and pewter. They are great with heels. Guess what? Platforms are also hot this season. They will do well with funky halter dress.

Remember to purchase your dress from a store that has a prom dresses registry. Before you make up your mind, try on at least 5 good dresses; they should be dresses you would not mind wearing. Always pick a dress that is fun, comfortable, affordable and sexy for your body type. As far as shoes are concerned, they need to be stylish and strappy.

Shop Online for Prom Dresses 2009 Choices

The date for the prom is always set early in the school year so that girls have plenty of time to buy their prom dresses. 2009 styles are almost the same as those for 2008, but the most popular colors dresses for this upcoming graduation are white Prom Dresses, black Prom Dresses, gold Prom Dresses, peach Prom Dresses and pink Prom Dresses. Designers work hard each year to come up with new styles and this is evident in the line up of dresses available for the 2009 prom. Some of the designs in necklines include the open sweetheart with satin piping, strapless and a front V-drop with a back V. Frills, flounces, bows and ribbons are back in fashion for this spring line up of prom dresses.

When choosing your prom dress, the most important thing to keep in mind is that you feel comfortable in the dress. You need to buy a dress that will flatter your figure and this includes plus sizes prom dresses as well. If you want to look slim in your dress and want to lose a few pounds before the prom, you have to keep in mind that you do need to shop early. Thousands of girls are shopping at the same time in your area so you may not be able to get the ready made dress at the store. Ordering online is one way in which you have a much larger selection to choose from. However, the delivery can take four to six weeks, which means you do need to place your order far in advance.

One of the benefits of shopping online for your prom dress is that you can compare the prices at numerous retailers and get the Cheap Prom Dresses of your dreams at an affordable price. In addition, these stores also carry the accessories you need to complement the dress of your choice, which means you can do all your shopping in one online location. The disadvantage is that you cannot try on the dress before you make your purchase when you shop online, so you do need to be certain of your size before you place your order.

Many girls look in catalogues and teen magazines to find out what the new styles for 2009 are in prom dresses. This also lets them know what colors are in fashion this year. However, your school may have a themed prom, which will narrow your choices in prom dresses to match that theme. For the most part though, the prom dress is usually a ball gown. You can shop for bridesmaid dresses too because these follow the same trend as prom dresses in the cut and design of the dress.

When choosing the prom dress of your dreams, consider the material of the dress. Some types of fabric hug the figure more closely than others and you have to find a color that suits your complexion. You can find the perfect color by simply holding swatches of fabric close to your face to find the color that suits you best. Even if this is not one of the colors popular in 2009 prom dresses when the color suits you, you will look like a princess on your special night. May be they are Purple Prom Dresses, Blue Prom Dresses, Red Prom Dresses, Green Prom Dresses, Chocolate Prom Dresses, Coffee Prom Dresses and so on .

Orange Prom Dresses for Every Skin Tone

When choosing a bold and bright color for prom season, there are many girls that are looking towards orange as the color of choice except yellow prom dresses, green prom dresses , Pink Prom Dresses, purple Prom Dresses . In fact, orange and teal are two of the most popular colors this season for formal dresses, including prom dresses and evening dresses. When it comes to bright colors through, especially a bright formal dress, it can be difficult to choose accessories.

First, although we realize that orange is a great color for the prom season, there are certain people that may not be able to pull off the orange prom dress look as good as others and therefore other colors may be more flattering. Those with pale skin and red hair may not look as good as they would like in orange, as the complexion is less than forgiving with these types of bright colors. As an alternative to bright orange, consider wearing a burnt orange or dark orange color dress to compliment the skin tone.

When wearing the orange dress, it is important to have a little bit of color on the skin, but too much color can make the dress look all wrong. Avoiding getting too much sun before the prom and choosing to have a soft glow of color is a better way to look in orange prom dresses while getting ready for prom. Avoid the tanning salons if you have a tendency to overdo it, especially for a special event like prom. You don’t want to be the same color as the dress that you are wearing.

When it comes to certain colors, there are just certain skin tones which are unforgiving. When it comes to your skin tone, tanning may help, but you will still have the same undertones – therefore, paying attention to advice can help you to look at your best.
