Before You Buy the Dress

Teens are often avid shoppers when it comes to everyday clothes, but when it comes to buying a Prom Dresses, they’re often lost. Prom Dresses are so different than other types of clothing that unless one has experience, they can easily buy the wrong dress and feel miserable for the entire prom evening. We’ve put together some great tips on buying prom dresses and other Evening Dresses to help you avoid common mistakes.

What’s the Formal Occasion?

Consider the occasion before buying a Black Formal Dresses. There are many occasions that might require formal wear such as the prom or other formal dance, wedding, Quinceanera, homecoming, cocktail party, Oscar award event, and so forth. Each occasion is unique. Consider what you will be doing during the evening out. Will you dance, dine, walk, sit, move around a lot, give a speech, sing? Consider how flexible your prom dress or Cocktail Dresses should be before buying.

Styles of Prom Dresses and Formal Wear

Do research online to view all the styles of prom dresses before you shop. There are many different styles, colors, hem lengths, and shapes of Prom Dresses that you can easily find the one that will look great on you. Some of the styles you’ll find include A-Line Prom Dresses (slimming with vertical seams and flared skirt), Ball Gown Evening Dresses (natural waist line and full skirt), mermaid (fits tight to the body and flares at knees), and sheath (no defined waistline and horizontal line, great for shorter people).

Prom Dresses come with different types of necklines such as jewel, halter, and spaghetti straps.

To find the latest fashions and styles, check out all of the major prom dress or formal wear designers such as Jovani, Flip, Tiffany, Scala, Jessica McClintock, Alyce, and Interlude. Each year, designers are finding new unique ways to design Prom Dresses and make prom girls shine on their special night.

Prom Dress and Formal Wear Colors

With prom dresses, the color choices are endless. There are light colors such as light pink, yellow, white, light beige, lavender, mint green, and many others. There are darker colors such as black, silver, gold, burgundy, dark blue, and dark green. The key to finding the right color is to match the color with your skin tone, hair color, and body shape. Think about what colors usually bring the most complements when wearing your regular clothing? These are likely your best colors. They blend well with your features and make your figure look great.

Some colors make plus size women look smaller (black, bright, or dark colors) while other colors can make them look larger (light colors). The same goes for someone who wants to appear fuller figured in certain spots. Choose a color and design that look great with your particular figure. And keep in mind that what looks great on your friend might not look good on you.

With other formal dresses, such as Bridesmaid Dresses, Homecoming Dresses, Oscar dresses, and Pageant Dresses, you might not get to choose from a wide variety of colors. Many of these events require certain colors to blend with the decorations.

Other Things to Consider

You’ll also need to shop for a prom dress or other formal gown according to your budget. Look around for great dresses within your price range from the beginning so you won’t go overboard. There are many styles of dresses within all price ranges and depending on the designer, the quality can vary as well.

Give yourself plenty of time for alterations if needed, especially when buying a prom dress online. You can’t try it on until you receive it, so you’ll want to order early enough to get alterations done before prom if necessary. Also, consider shipping costs when buying and whether there is a guarantee.

Think ahead to how you can accessorize your prom dress or formal wear. You’ll need shoes, jewelry, hose, possibly a hairpiece, a handbag, and other accessories. Be sure the color and style you choose can be easily matched with other items.

You can shop online to find prom dresses by popular designers and choose from many styles and colors. The prices are often lower also. Online formal wear shops usually offer formal dresses for all occasions including Evening Dresses, summer dresses, prom dresses, homecoming dresses, Quinceanera Dresses and many others. Start looking early so you can secure the prom dress of your dreams.

Prom Dresses should be carefully selected for fit and quality. Make sure to have your exact, recent measurements on hand when ordering. Further, you should check the reputation of the retailer or dress-maker. Our brand and store online reviews should help make choosing one an easier decision.
Selecting Prom Dress Colors:
The classic colors are black, white and silver; but there are more and more Red Prom Dresses. If you want attention and can pull it off, some of the more showy pink, silver, and retro dresses can offer some vibrancies that are sure to be memorable.
A black, white or silver dress is a classic choice for understated elegance and charm; but, if you are skimping on modesty, you’ll want to show off and be noticed in Green Prom Dresses, or any other rainbow–laden bucket of color.
Finding Retro Prom Dresses:
Retro Prom Dresses show off more charm than you’d guess dressed in high-cowl necklines carried out to display knee-length sensibility and sheer solid-colored overlays.  Vintage dresses, like these, capture the vibrancy suggested in your body type, whether you are curvy, tall and slender or mirroring the shape of a stout teapot, gracefully dressed in a fall season, tulle skirt worn to calf’s length.

Hairstyles that go with Your Beautiful Dresses

Your hairstyle can say a lot about the look you are trying to portray when attending a special event, especially when you are wearing Strapless Prom Dresses. Hair is an important step because your hairstyle can make you look even more dressed up, no matter the style of your dress and the accessories you add.

If you want a more formal look an up-do is the obvious choice. However, there are many styles of up-dos that you can choose from, so how do you decide?  Depending on how formal the cocktail event you are attending is depends on how formal the up-do. If extremely formal, Pink Cocktail Dresses are always a good choice. This is a sleek look and adds a chic and elegance to your outfit. However, if your event is formal and you are not sure how formal to do your hair, go with a messier up-do that is not so sleek.  With this type of do you will still portray a formal look, but will be more casual. If your hair is not thick enough or long enough for an up-do, try adding extensions to your hair. Extensions will not only add length, but will add thickness as well. When you do not have thick hair, your up-dos can look kind of sad because there just is not enough texture or fullness. Extensions will definitely take care of both of these issues, and will not ruin your hair in the process.  Up-dos are very pretty with Blue Cocktail Dresses because you are able to see your neck and shoulders, two beautiful features of women.

If the event you are attending is not a formal event you can wear your hair down with a strapless dress. This is not against the rules. I do suggest adding style to your hair and try not to wear it the same way down as you always do. Adding curls to your hair also makes your hair look dressier, but not as formal as an up-do.  Wearing your hair half up also portrays this type of look, but again is not as formal as an up-do.

There is a wide range of hairstyles that you can wear with Pageant Dresses. Any type of hairstyle will go with a strapless dress, but rather you should be picking your hairstyle for the type of event that you are attending. Remember that if the event is a formal event, you truly want to go with an up-do, and if the event is not so formal, wearing your hair down is appropriate.  If you are unsure how formal the event is, wearing your hair half up is a safe choice because it not only shows effort, but displays a style that still allows everyone at the event to see your face and your Quinceanera Dresses. A low messy up-do is also another safe choice because the hairstyle is not as formal, so you can get away with this style at a more casual event or a dressier event. My biggest advice is to try and find out what kind of event you are attending in order to make sure you pick the appropriate hairstyle.

Quinceanera Dresses for Every Day Hispanic Princesses

Many young latinas in the U.S. grow up with romantic dreams of their Quinceanera, fantasizing about making the transformation from girl to woman and being the centre of attention to their adoring family. Of paramount importance is an issue that features high when planning any big occasion … what to wear!
Quinceanera dresses, similar to Sweet 16 Dresses are notoriously glamorous, despite the fact that they are for fifteen-year-old girls. After all, what better excuse is there to play dress-ups than one’s own coming of age?
Depending on financial circumstances and social standing, Quinceanera Dresses can be simple and elegant or over-the-top and flashy. But whatever the situation, they, one kind of Family Celebration Dresses are bound to be memorable.
Enlisting the help of a designer is one way of ensuring that your young lady shines on her big day and doesn’t appear to be dressed way beyond her years. It also means that she will wear a beautiful gown that will flatter her personality and appearance because it will be personalized for her. If something more affordable is in order, however, a visit to a bridal boutique is a great idea, as some designers put together a regular collection of Wholesale Quinceanera Dresses, from which it’s possible to select a creation to suit. The store will also stock accessories to match, such as stunning headpieces, scepters, satin bouquets, jewelry and more.
Quinceanera Dresses are big business in some parts of America. Naturally, the greater concentration of Hispanics in the community, the more outlets offering gowns to cater for the fiesta. The Internet means that regardless of where a family lives, shopping for a ’sweet fifteen’ is a relatively simple matter of browsing the web and the plethora of sites that offer all that’s required to celebrate, from ideas to entire packages. Discount websites are a boon for lower income families keen to give their daughter the Cheap Quinceanera Dresses they can afford without having to sweat on finances any more than is necessary. Inexpensive doesn’t always translate to ‘cheap’.
Fashions come and go with all things and Quinceanera Dresses are no different. It’s traditional to wear a floor length, full-skirted gown and that doesn’t seem to change, however the choice of fabrics varies with trends. Currently, there is not a huge demand for lace, and while taffeta used to be considered outdated, it’s making a comeback thanks to various movie stars sporting it on the red carpet at premieres and awards nights. Indeed, many styles are also inspired by gowns seen on television shows like Dancing with the Stars. Latina fashion role models Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayek can influence what a young lady wears for her Quinceanera Dresses just by being seen in something gorgeous.
A girl’s Quinceanera is a magical religious and social time for her and her family. She is destined to be the belle of the ball, the one upon whom all eyes are turned, so she must look her best. Since the ’sweet fifteen’ is a rite of passage and a renewal of her baptism, it’s significantly enough to warrant that she be treated like a princess for a day.

Considerations and Tips when Buying a Dress

1- Occasions
Your formal wear selecting depends on the occasion and your role in it. Formal occasions include:
. Weddings: Other than the bride and groom, formal wear is required for bridesmaids, best men, flower girls, and ring bearers. Wedding guests usually dress formally also.
. Proms: Both boys and girls.
. Homecoming and other formal parties.
. Quinceañeras: The birthday girl, her Damas and Chambeláns.
. Baptism and First Communion occasions.
. Pageants.

Semi-formal occasions such as a cruise ship trip, a Las Vegas vacation, a night out to the ball room… would be good times for you to dress up as well.

2- Styles
Here are some general considerations:

Forms and Shapes:
Silhouette or Shape of the Dress: Depends on the lady’s figure. For example, some figure flaws can be hidden with an A-Line style: It has a slimming shape, vertical seams from the shoulder down, and ends with a flared skirt, resembling a letter A shape. A more traditional style, the Ball Gown - a dress with a full bodice with natural waistline and a full skirt - is elegant on most body shapes and helps to make your face, neck, and waist stand out while covering difficult hips. But if you are proud of your curvy body, then check out the Mermaid, a narrow style with tight body and a skirt that flares at the knees. This style is less comfortable than the others. For the same body-fitting but more comfortable silhouette, the Sheath, similar to the Mermaid, closely follows the body line, and has no defined waistline. This style well accommodates shorter ladies, because its clean, horizontal line helps to create a taller image. Compare A-Line Evening Dresses, Mermaid Evening Dresses, Ball Gown Evening Dresses, Sheath Evening Dresses.

Note that bridesmaid dresses don’t necessarily need to exactly match the bride’s gown style, but they must not be too contradicting.

Neck Line: The dress neck line supports and gratifies your shoulders, chest, upper back, and your neck. There are many neck line styles: Halter (which comes with a sleeveless gown with a high choke neck), Jewel (which circles the base of your neck), Portrait (with a shawl collar), Queen Anne (with a high rising collar), Sabrina (with a high scoop neck), Spaghetti Straps (thin straps), and Wedding Band (with an elaborate band fitting on the neck); just to name a few. See

Sleeve Length: There are 3/4 length, long, short, sleeveless, spaghetti straps, and strapless, etc.

. Dress Length dictates the distance from the bottom of your dress to the ground. In general, the more formal your occasion is, the longer dress length you need to choose. A dress length is somewhere between Floor-Length (hemline is 1/2-2in from floor), Tea Length (8-10in from the floor), Ballet Length (hemline falls just above the ankles), and Mini Length (the shortest, with hemline falls just above the knees). Remember to take account of your shoes when you choose the length.

. Dress Train Length determines how far the train on the bottom of the dress extends. Although a short train is suitable for any formal level, longer train lengths are more formal. If your occasion is outside, you probably wouldn’t want a Monarch, which extends 3 yards from the waistline, because it’ll get dirty on the ground. Instead, pick something shorter such as the Sweep, a short train 8 to 10 inches from the floor. Other trains include the Chapel (extends 1 1/2 yards from the waistline), and the Semi-Cathedral (2 1/2 yards). Some dresses have detachable or bustled train to be unloaded at the end of your main ceremony.

3- Colors
Your dress color is what catches people’s eyes first. Choosing colors, of course, is a matter of taste; but you should follow some general guidelines:

. Matching Skin Tone: In general, people tend to choose the dress color to match their skin tone. A darker-skinned lady may prefer to wear a black dress. But on the other hand, a lighter-skinned lady might also go with the black dress which helps contrasting her skin. Remember that, what looks great on another person may not be your choice at all, and vice versa.

. Matching Other People’s Dress Colors: For occasions like weddings, if you are one of the bridesmaids, then you must follow the group’s theme. The bride picks out a theme from a store, and registers the names of her bridesmaids and maid of honor. You will get your dress with the same theme (style and color), from that same store.

For Quinceanera dresses, the traditional color is pink; but other colors, especially white or light colors, have become popular as well. Bottom line is, it is your big day, so pick the color you like best.

4- Decorations
. Formal dresses may be decorated with pearly beads, ribbons, and flowers, etc. Although many elaborate styles are beautiful, the simple ones can be very elegant.

5- Sizes
. Your dress size should fit tightly to show your beautiful curves, but not too tight to breathe. Most formal wear shops offer alterations such as hemline changes and other minor modifications (we do too).

6- Alterations
. Manufacturers sometimes make dresses slightly longer than average, to accommodate taller people. But it is no big deal if your dress is a bit long for you, because it can be altered. Most formal wear stores provide this service, either “free of charge” (but in fact it is hidden in the dress’ price), or available for a small cost. Up front, you will need to pay for your dress in full or to make a deposit. Expect a few days, up to 2 weeks to get it back (We Party Cloz offers quick, full alterations).

7- Prices and Where to Buy
. You should pay attention to independent retailers, whose prices may be significantly below those of the chain stores. Why? These smaller businesses typically avoid spending big budget for commercial advertising and for large personnel. But they, of course, must compete with “the big guys” by keeping lower cost and therefore offer more attractive prices, for the same high-quality products.

. Are you tired of calling a company but got the message “Your call is important to us”? This is when your local store saves your day. Small businesses give you the personal attention which you don’t get from the large corporations. They develop a closer relationship with their customers, perform better customer services, and provide faster turn-around services.

. If you are short on cash, ask for hold or layaway. A store will hold your dress aside for a few days without charges. Layaway is for longer terms (a few weeks to a few months); when you pay some money up front, then later make additional payments when you can (or on a schedule), and receive your dress when it is paid in full. Although each store has their own policies, make sure that they do not charge interests or fees for layaways (we sure don’t!)

8- Availabilities
. For your important occasions, you must shop early, from half a year to 9 months ahead, to allow sufficient time for researching.

. If you are to select dresses for a group, make sure the store has enough sizes in stock for all of you, or you can order them in time.

. Special Orders and Mail Orders: A shop may need 1 up to 8 weeks to get your order in. Sometimes express orders are available for faster deliveries.

. You should shop at stores that are specialized in formal wear .The shops that sell both casual wear and formal wear probably do not have a large selection as a formal wear shop does.

9- Matching Apparel Accessories, Wedding Accessories
. Formal wear stores and bridal shops usually carry accessories that match their dresses and gowns, such as veils, tiaras, petticoats and hoops, scarves, gloves, garters, and dress shoes.
. You might as well ask for other items like flower baskets, cake-cutting knife, etc.
(WE OFFER ALL OF THE ABOVE).

10- Online Shopping
Before making your decision, pay attention on concerns such as shipping and handling charges, and the time it takes, in addition to pricing and quality concerns.
